Back to School Tech
By Chris Clackum
(NBC News) The National Retail Federation predicts parents will be spending close to $75-billion this year to equip their kids for the return to school.
Another study, commissioned by Dell, found a lot of that will go to buy technology, mainly laptop or tablet computers.
Parents will be happy to know the survey found it's apparently money well spent.
77-percent of over 500 students interviewed say they often go directly from the classroom to their device for more information on the subject being studied.
"The accessibility is key! You want your child to be able to access information wherever they are, whenever they need it and that's what that device is going to give them," says author Lauren Berger.
Berger, a career counselor, author and founder of InternQueen.com also found another interesting upside for parents in the survey.
"Over 55% of parents in this Harris Poll said they are speaking to their kids less but actually communicating more, whether that be via email, texting or social media," she notes.
