AG Holder Wants Data Breach Disclosure Law
40 million Americans may have had their credit card information stolen from Target stores across the country following one of the largest security breaches in U.S. history.
Attorney General Eric Holder wants companies to quickly disclose any time there's a data breach involving customer information.
He released a video message monday saying it's the best way to give you the time to protect yourself from identity theft.
Holder cited the recent breaches at Target and Neiman Marcus as part of the reason such a law is needed.
A bill proposed by Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy would do much of what Holder is asking.
The legislation has been gaining support since the Christmastime security breaches.
