Michael Goodwin Withdraws Plea in Medicaid Fraud Case
By Aaron Langston
AMARILLO -- A local orthodontist who plead guilty to Medicaid fraud last year is now asking to withdraw his plea.
In court documents, Michael Goodwin claims that his lawyer coaxed him into the plea deal to keep his wife and office manager from going to jail.
He also claims his lawyer told him he could not afford a proper defense if his case went to trial.
Attached to court documents is also a letter from an Indiana District Attorney showing that Goodwin's lawyer will soon be facing charges for defrauding Goodwin and his wife out of $380,000 while representing them in their Federal Medicaid Fraud case here.
