Medication Clean-Out Collects Thousands of Pills

- It's time to clean out your medicine cabinet.

"Pounds of medication is what people usually bring in. It's not one or two viles of medication, people ususally have a bucket or a sack that they bring in to us to get rid of," Ronica Farrar, an educator with Texas Panhandle Poison Center said.

Getting rid of unneeded medications is the goal this weekend for the Poison Center and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy.

These groups, in partnership with the Amarillo Police Department will be collecting your leftover meds from 10-2 on Saturday.

This is the 26th medication clean-out, and they've collected a lot over the years.

"In that time we've collectd over 12,500 pounds of medication. A lot of medication, that is no longer on the streets where people can abuse it, no longer availvable where a kiddo could get into it and aybe get poisoned. It's out of harms way," Farrar said.

Out of harms way is exactly where they want your medication, so drop by this weekend.
