$700,000 of Marijuana Seized by Potter County Deputies
AMARILLO -- Potter County Sheriffs Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a van Sunday at 7:56 p.m. at I-40 and Bell St.
The van was occupied by 4 males, ages 27, 21, 18, and 16, all from California. When the deputy approached the van, he smelled the aroma of fresh marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The deputy learned the occupants had conflicting stories of where they were going. A search of the vehicle resulted in three large tubs containing 63 bundles of marijuana, weighing about 65 lbs.
The 27 and 21 year olds were arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Possession of Marijuana over 50 pounds but under 2000 pounds.
The 18-year-old was released at the scene; the 16 year old was released to the custody of Child Protective Services. N
either the 18 nor the 16 year old is believed to have had knowledge of the transport.
The marijuana has an estimated street value of $742,000. The names of the two males arrested are being withheld until they are arraigned on the charges.
