AMARILLO – Late Friday night, Amarillo Police responded to a call at the La Kiva Motel on a report of a suspicious vehicle possibly involved in a narcotics transaction in the parking lot.
Officers located the vehicle in the motel lot and tried to stop it. Francisco Javier Cisneros, 23, fled westbound on the access road and then north on S. Ross. Cisneros then turned off his headlights crossing the Ross/Mirror Connector. Officers ended the pursuit. The vehicle turned eastbound on Amarillo Boulevard.
A short time later, officers located it again, now driving with the headlights on. They tried to stop Cisneros again but he did not stop. Officers were able to “spike” vehicle’s tires as it went south and west on Ridgemere. Cisneros continued to drive on damaged tires.
By this time, the DPS helicopter became involved and monitored the vehicle as it was going west on NE 3rd. Cisneros continued on NE 3rd before turning back north and eventually stopping in the street in the area of the 900 block of N. Charlotte.
The vehicle was under observation by the helicopter, staffed by a DPS pilot and APD flight officer when Cisneros ran east through the parking lot of the apartments.
Officers apprehended him after a foot pursuit.
Cisneros was arrested for an outstanding Potter County warrant for sexual assault of a child and evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle with a previous conviction, a felony.
No one was injured and no drugs were found.
