The Lubbock County S.O. issued the following statement Thursday:

On 5-6-2014, officers with the Lubbock Police Department’s Gang unit intercepted evidence unveiling a plot to retaliate against a Lubbock Sheriff’s Deputy. Further investigation revealed that Adam Rico hired Coty Garcia to commit a criminal act intended to cause harm to the Deputy and/or his family, for the sum of $500. Garcia’s intent at the time of his arrest on unrelated charges was to carry out the contract. It was upon Garcia’s arrest that he revealed the plot to harm the Deputy and family. Garcia’s statements and evidence found by the Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of Rico by the U.S. Marshall’s Service in Albuquerque, N.M., yesterday [Thursday]. Rico is awaiting extradition back to Lubbock at this time with a bond amount of 5 million dollars.

The U.S. Marshal Service in Albuquerque issued the following statement:

Deputy United States Marshals and the Albuquerque Police Officers arrested Adam Rico at the Hampton Inn Motel located at Coors and Illiff in NW Albuquerque, NM. Rico is also being charged with Arson of a Habitation and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Deputies from the North Texas Fugitive Task Force in Lubbock, Texas, developed leads Rico was in Albuquerque, NM. The US Marshals Service SWIFT task force assisted Deputy Marshals from North Texas and investigated those leads locally. Rico was arrested on Federal charges in April 2014 for Weapons Offenses and Possession with intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. Rico has a $5 million dollar bail and will be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center, where he will await extradition back to Texas.
