LUBBOCK -- Six city employees are headed to the panhandle to help communities affected by a major wildfire near Fritch. More than 100 homes were destroyed and more than 2,500 acres charred in the wildfire that started late Sunday afternoon. One person has reportedly died.

"They will be leaving today to go up to the panhandle area, help that incident commander and the incident management team up there handle that incident, a very widespread large incident. And our employees will be leaving this afternoon for a possibly three day deployment," said LFD Division Chief Robert Keinast.

Keinast says this wildfire is a reminder that fire conditions are very dangerous right now and to be extra cautious outdoors, especially as we head into summer.
