Engine Failure: NTSB Update on Amarillo Plane Crash

- AMARILLO --  Engine failure caused a plane to nosedive into an Amarillo neighborhood.  According to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board, Ben Harned the Fourth reported having engine problems prior to the plane going off the radar.  The accident happened on the morning of July 25th on the 21-hundred block of South Mirror.  The Piper PA-30 clipped at least one home during the crash.  No one inside the home was injured but Harned was pronounced dead at the scene.
NTSB investigators found that Harned was on his way to Lubbock but began experiencing problems with the left engine shortly after takeoff.  Harned radioed in that he was having problems when the left engine stopped.
