Longtime tennis player, Benjy Barton, knows the importance of learning the fundamentals of tennis at an early age.
"They learn about the ins and outs of tennis. They learn forehands, backhands, volleys, overheads and serves. They have a lot of fun with games and drills," explains Benjy.
The camp provides a fun learning environment for all levels and ages of tennis players.
Benjy says, "Tennis gets you involved with people of all ages. It gets you of course physical. Tennis is a mental sport as well and it's something I definitely love."
Rishi Khandheria, Amarillo National Tennis Center Camp Instructor, says, "It's a weekly thing. Some of these kids do half day some of these kids do full day."
Rishi is currently playing for Amarillo High School's tennis team and competitive United States Tennis Association Tournaments.
"I can tell them if they want to start to play USTA tournaments, give them advice on particular things during a match and before a match, stuff like that. If you're younger it's a great place to start," says Rishi.
For junior camp player, Cammie Mitchell, she wanted to try something new this summer after watching Wimbledon.
"I think it looked so interesting and it looked like an interesting sport," Cammie says.
All instructors are former college players or tennis coaches.
Cammie says, "The coaches teach you so well that you feel like you're going to be a great player, and I feel like I'm really going to improve in this sport since I've never played and this is my first week."
Junior camp player, Bailey Wilson, is simply following in her mom's footsteps.
"Tennis -- my mom played it and I thought it would be real fun and I like it a lot. The coaches teach you really well, and I've learned to play way better than I was," Bailey says.
"It's always been a really fun thing -- you learn a lot. I feel like the quality of the instructors. The atmosphere. It's not too stressful. It's just fun," says Rishi.
