LUBBOCK -- New rules are approved by the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District.

1.5-acre feet per year can be used for each acre which touches another.

Well users can have a reserve of .5-acre feet.

And water users can self-report with meters, but they have to pay for them.

There are also new protections if you voluntarily install a new well.

Water users helped develop these new rules.

There is a tool on the hpwd's website, to help explain follow this link.
