AMARILLO -- Infections are falling in hospitals across the nation, and reports show Texas is topping other states when it comes to prevention.

A report by the CDC released this week shows a decrease in infections that patients got while in the hospital, otherwise known as HAI's.

As a whole, according to the report, nationwide numbers show:

-    One in 25 patients gets an infection during their stay.

-    More than 720,000 infections were recorded.

-    That's down from 1.7 million the year before.

The CDC shows that Texas hospitals have performed even better than the national average, with a 44% lower rate for central line associated blood stream infection.

All of the statistics came from a study done by the CDC back in 2012, comparing the number of HAI's reported in 2011.
