Habitat for Humanity is making this Father's Day special for an Amarillo dad.

Single dad Shawn Vandiver is receiving keys to his new house.

Vandiver completed 500 volunteer hours by working on other families homes, working at the Amarillo Habitat for Humaniity restore and helping with other projects at the non-profit.

He also attended 30 hours of educational classes focusing on financial stewardship.

Vandiver tells us he couldn't imagine a better Father's Day gift.

Shawn Vandiver says, i'm blessed.  I'm a single daddy and me and my son have been living in a one bedroom apartment, and for him to have is own room and a big back yard to play in means the world to me and i'm grateful."

Amarillo Habitat for Humanity Partner Families are chosen by a family selection committee who considers multiple factors including the hud median, family income chart, employment history and credit references.
