According to apartment list, the share of cost-burdened renters has doubled since 1960, when just 24 percent of renters were cost burdened.

In 2015, it was 42.6 percent of Amarillo renters.

Last year, it hit 49.7 percent, the lowest level since 2008.

Today, they said more than 20 percent of Amarillo renters are severely cost-burdened.

That means they are spending 50 percent or more of their income on rent.
