AMARILLO -- AISD held a groundbreaking ceremony for Travis 6th Grade Campus today.

The Travis 6th Grade Campus is being built to relieve overcrowding at Travis Middle School and to create a better environment for student learning at both campuses.

Travis Middle School will only house 7th and 8th grades once the 6th grade campus is open.

Voters approved the 6th grade campuses for Bowie and Travis Middle Schools in the May 2013 bond election.

Together, the two 6th grade campuses will cost approximately $28.6 million to build and furnish.
