JJ Levenstein, MD, FAAP
Dr. JJ Levenstein has spent the last thirty years caring for children. She received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley in 1978, and remained in San Francisco to serve as a research associate at the Children's Cancer Research Institute. She graduated summa cum laude with a second undergraduate degree from Duke Universitys PA Program in 1982, and completed specialty training in Pediatrics at Norwalk Hospital/Yale University. She served as a pediatric PA at Southern California Permanente for five years, and moved on to complete her medical training at the Keck School of Medicine at USC in 1991. Her internship and residency in Pediatrics were completed at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, where she was acknowledged as the outstanding pediatric intern, and was also recognized as one of the top three graduating residents in her class.
She enjoyed 20 years of private practice in Encino, CA before retiring in 2012. She was voted on of the Best Doctors in America® 2004 through 2012, and received many accolades from community organizations. She serves as Executive Secretary of United Cerebral Palsy Los Angeles, where she is a very active member of the Board of Directors and Board of Governors. She has served on the Scientific Advisory Council of the National Peanut Board since 2008, where she has brought the voice of the parent to the NBP and serves as a spokesperson for the Board at events and conferences. She is also chair of NPBs recently formed Food Allergy Education Advisory Council.
She is president and co-founder of MD MOMS, and manufactures hypoallergenic skin products for infants and children. She is active in the media, and writes for several child-oriented websites and sits on the advisory boards of several sites. She is an on-line instructor for www.momassembly.com, and currently is appearing on Home and Family (on the Hallmark network) contributing medical segments for their audience.
Apart from medicine, Dr. JJ is an accomplished chef, having completed culinary school last year, has a grown son who lives in Chicago, and is happily married to Bruce. She lives in Burbank, CA with her husband and 2 dogs.
