Your mom was right. We should be eating our fruits and veggies every day but this study doesn't put it as nicely as our moms would. It suggests that if you eat at least seven servings a day it could reduce your risk of death.
A new study by British scientists, and published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community found that people who ate seven servings of fruits and vegetables a day cut their risk of death from all causes by 42 percent. Those who ate more produce had lower body mass indexes and researchers say were more protected against cancer and heart disease.
This is interesting too -- while seven servings is best, it appears that eating as much as you can is still good, even if that is less than the desired seven.
Researchers say each serving in and of itself is beneficial and each additional serving is associated with a lower risk of death.
Ultimately, the researchers say we need to "aim high" and eat more fruits and veggies -- as many servings as you can stomach daily.
