Study: Double Mastectomy Doesn't Boost Survival

-
A new study suggests double mastectomies won't improve survival odds for patients battling cancer in one breast.

A study of almost 200,000 women showed nearly identical ten year survival rates for women who chose removal of the tumor and radiation instead.

The number who chose double mastectomies had been on the rise, especially among younger women.

The research was published in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association.
