Running Tips For the New Year

Running is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories, up to 600 calories per hour. And whether you are a long time runner or new to the sport, there are tips for getting the most out of your workout.

If you have never hit the pavement previously, and don't exercise much in general, then start slowly.  Orlando florida trainer Susan Paul suggests starting with a walk/run plan.  Run for three minutes, then walk for one minute for a total of 12 minutes.  And get some good shoes.  Increase running and decrease walking as you get more fit.

If you are a sometimes runner, New York exercise coach Jonathan Crane suggests interval training.  Build a few minutes of speed runs into your routine.  And aim for three days a week versus two days for your workouts.

And all you longtime runners out there you can still benefit from a few tips.  Elite running coach Andrew Kastor urges you to add a buddy to your run to help push though tough workouts.  And he says a cold bath can help reduce cramping.
