Flags Fly at Arlington

- (NBC News) Throughout Memorial Day weekend ceremonies around the country will honor the men and women who have died serving this country.

At Arlington National Cemetery, where more than 400,000 service members, veterans and their families are buried, a special tribute is under way.

More than 1,000 soldiers from the Army's 3rd Infantry, known as the Old Guard, have placed flags on each grave.

"In its own way I think its amazing it is because every single tombstone is a different person, a different sacrifice that they made," says Army Specialist Jeremy Wood.

The ceremony is known as "Flags In".

Every Memorial Day weekend since 1948 soldiers have walked the several hundred acre cemetery,
turning it into a sea of patriotic colors.
