EMTS needed in Claude

CLAUDE - The city of Claude is looking for certified EMTs to help meet their demand.

At the beginning of June, Claude Mayor Bill Wood decided to suspend the city's EMS.

He says he had to do that because they didn't have enough people to respond to 9-1-1 calls.

"We didn't have enough certified people to make the runs so the sheriff's office is now calling Amarillo or Pantex to make the runs down here," said Bill Wood.

Mayor Wood says that change is meaning a longer response time.

He tells us, the wait time used to be around 8 minutes now it could be closer to 45 minutes.

Wood says with not enough certified people in Claude, there are times that cannot be covered without the help of Amarillo and Pantex.

"We are doing the best we can to cover all the times for the people in our city and county. They deserve the coverage and we are making sure we get it for them," said Wood.

Claude officials are working now to encourage more people to become EMTs.

"We are doing everything we can to encourage, especially our young people in town town to get involved and do the schooling and so we can have some more people," added Wood.

Wood says the Armstrong County Sheriff's Office is also helping the city of Claude when it comes to finding people.

"Everybodys ago on this deal, we just need some bodies and to get the thing running and we are looking for help," said Wood.

Wood tells us they are interviewing potential directors for the EMS next week and then will continue to find more EMTs to meet their demand.

Mayor Wood says if anyone is interested in applying as an EMT, they need to just apply at city hall.

They are looking to fill around 10 part-time positions.
