Some information on the speaker:
Beneva Camarena, 61 was 36 when her husband, Enrique Kiki Camarena, was kidnapped and brutally beaten to death by Mexican drug traffickers. He was a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) working in Guadalajara, Mexico, where Geneva and their three sons, ages 11, 6 and 4, lived at the time. The couple were high school sweethearts who grew up in Calexico, where Enrique had worked as a firefighter and police investigator. He also served two years in the Marines before joining the DEA in 1974. As an undercover agent, he had infiltrated and helped break up drug trafficking gangs until his kidnapping Feb. 7, 1985. Geneva, who lives in Chula Vista, formed the Enrique S. Camarena Foundation in 2004 with the help of retired DEA agents and her oldest son, Enrique, a deputy district attorney working in the South Bay. She dedicates her time to promoting drug awareness in schools and communities nationwide.
