DPS Trooper Seizes over $224,000 in Meth

AMARILLO -- A DPS traffic stop Sunday on I-40, yielded over six pounds of meth valued at over $224,000.

At 7:34 p.m., a DPS trooper pulled over a 1999 Dodge Caravan traveling eastbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Amarillo in Potter County.

During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered five bundles of methamphetamine in the spare tire.

Jose Luis Cortez, 48, and Rosa Elana Arizmendi, 25, were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Potter County Jail. 

The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Pacoima, California, to Nashville, Tennessee.
