AMARILLO - A traffic stop Wednesday on I-40 by DPS resulted in the seizure of over 36 pounds of methamphetamine valued at over $1.3 million.

During the afternoon, a DPS trooper pulled over a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer traveling eastbound on I-40, for a traffic violation, near Conway in Carson County.

During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 23 bundles of methamphetamine in the seats.

The driver, 18-year-old Leira Cota, 18, was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Carson County Jail.

The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Nogales, Arizona to Oklahoma City.
