AMARILLO -- A DPS traffic stop Thursday on I-40 yielded 70 pounds of marijuana that was valued at over $37,000.00.

At 4:28 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2013 Chrysler van traveling eastbound on I-40, for a traffic violation near Amarillo in Potter County. During the traffic stop, the trooper conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered 70 pounds of marijuana in the cargo area of the van.

Casper Amon Andrews, 34, of Whittier, California and Tanisha Late Blanton, 38, of Los Angeles were placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony, and booked into the Potter County jail.

The drugs were allegedly being transported from Compton, California to Memphis, Tennessee.
