DPS Trooper Seizes 30 Pounds of Marijuana

AMARILLO – During a traffic stop Wednesday morning on I-40, DPS seized 30 pounds of marijuana valued at over $130,000.

A DPS trooper pulled over a 2014 Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on I-40, for a traffic violation, near Conway in Carson County.

During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 30 bundles of marijuana in the trunk.

DPS arrested the driver, 58-year-old Richard L Chaplin, 58, of Joplin, Missouri for possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, and booked into the Carson County Jail.

The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from San Francisco to Joplin, Mo.
