DPS Identifies Man That Shot at Carson County Deputies

The Texas Rangers have identified the deceased individual as 41-year-old, Yia Lee, of Sacramento, Calif. Lee will be transported to South Plains Forensics in Lubbock for an Autopsy
 
Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be handed over to the District Attorney’s office.
 
The shooting happened Friday morning at 3:43 a.m. at the DPS office on the west side of Panhandle. 
 
Lee and the other suspect had been placed in custody for a criminal charge of transporting drugs. 
 
Officials say that Lee produced a loaded handgun and fired at the two deputies.  The deputies returned fire and Lee was shot and later pronounced dead at the scene. 
 
Neither deputy was injured. 
 
The deputies will be placed on administrative leave with pay and the investigation of the shooting will be conducted by the Texas Rangers.
 
The other individual that was with Lee has been identified but no Charges were filed.
