District 13 Representative Mac Thornberry's Response to Syria Strike

Looking at what our local representative thinks of the decision

AMARILLO, TX - After President Donald Trump launched a military strike against Syria on Thursday District 13 Representative Mac Thornberry spoke to the Secretary of Defense and the Vice-President about the strike.

The action came after reports of a chemical weapon attack that killed dozens on civilians.

Representative Thornberry said, "I know that there was outreach from the administration toward Congress. I also know that they were trying to make sure that they did not precipitate a conflict with the Russians and I think that makes sense. "

Since the start of Syria's civil war six years ago, this is the first direct military action taken by the United States.

"Well I hope the result of this strike is to deter Assad from using chemical weapons to kill more innocent people. That was the clear message, that no longer  is the United States and the international community going to stand by and let him commit these atrocities," Representative Thornberry said.

The Congressman went on to say that if this is a one time raid then there is not much more to this for the Armed Services Committee. However, with ISIS inside Syria, the Armed Services Committee will be very much involved. The ISIS conflict is different than what the Syria strike is about.

Representative Thornberry said, "I'm hopeful that this will put us on a better path than where we've been before."
