Comm Week at West Texas A&M University kicked off Monday.
For students like Tori Stone, who is on the Comm Week planning committee, the week-long celebration goes beyond the classroom.
"I just think it's important to get students interacting with each other, and I think it's important to get professors and students interacting with each other in a completely different light other than sitting in the classroom and having them talk to you," Stone said.
Comm Week gets students and staff out of the lecture hall., focusing on fun and a little competition.
There's a game show, karaoke and even some faculty playing dress-up.
In a department with around 300 majors, Department Head Trudy Hanson says Comm Week events have a large turnout, typically more than 100 students per event.
"We have found that when students have a relationship with the school or with their professors, their tendency to be successful and graduate is much greater," Hanson said.
A focus on sucess, with plenty of fun along the way.
