Amarillo, Texas -
AMARILLO -- From Monday May 19th through Sunday June 1st, the Amarillo Police will be participating in the national Click it or Ticket Campaign.
The department received a grant from TxDOT that will fund extra officers during this period, assigned to patrol and concentrate efforts on enforcement of seat belt and child restraint laws. Numerous extra officers will be out to focus on these violations during this period and enforcement will be strict.
In 2013 there were 943 fatalities and 5,383 serious injuries in Texas resulting from crashes in which drivers or passengers were not wearing seat belts. Wearing a seat belt increases your chances of surviving a serious crash by 45%. Wearing your seat belt will not only spare you the expense of a citation, it can save your life or protect you from serious injury. A recent survey conducted in Amarillo reflected that only 83.6% of drivers are wearing their seat belts.
