Class to Resume at Caprock High School Following Main Water Line Break

AMARILLO - Classes at Caprock High School will resume at their normal time Friday morning, October 27, after the school was closed Thursday because of a water main break.

We are told the City of Amarillo is working to install a temporary water line which would restore water service to the campus.

In the event the temporary line does not go through, AISD is making arrangements to have portable restrooms on-site at school tomorrow.

The district said they will provide bottled water for students and staff, and cafeteria meals will be prepared off-site and brought to the school, so breakfast and lunch will be served.

Because crews are working to resolve the water main break, traffic will be a challenge around Caprock on Friday. Students and parents should plan ahead for likely traffic delays. Please be aware of these route changes/modifications:

  • 34th Avenue has been reduced from four lanes to two lanes.
  • The front side of Caprock ( the south side with the circle drive) will not be available for student drop off or pick up.
  • All bus boarding and pickup (including the AACAL bound buses) will be diverted to Longhorn Trail.
  • Students who use the parking lots south of 34th Avenue should use the eastern-most crosswalk to cross the street to get to the campus.
