Civil Rights: More to Accomplish
By Jay Gray
(NBC News) President Obama is in Texas today, taking part in a civil rights summit marking the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act signed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
The president and guests from across the country are honoring the sacrifices of those who fought for equality, and working to set the agenda moving forward.
Much has changed, but for many there is so much still to accomplish.
"That's really the challenge, and really I think peace, prisons, schools, economic injustice...those are the lingering issues that really deserve our tension and passion and our commitment to change," says University of Chicago professor Dr. Barbara Ransby.
