City of Amarillo Election: Ginger Nelson Files For Possible Mayoral Run

In less than six months, Amarillo voters will be headed back to the ballot box.

The municipal elections are coming up May 6th and we may already have our first candidate.

Amarillo attorney Ginger Nelson filed her treasurer appointment last week in an apparent attempt at running for mayor.

Nelson is also a board member of the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation.

Nelson did not return our calls for an interview.

Mayor Paul Harpole says he hasn't yet decided if he will run again, for mayor. But, tells us he is encouraged by Nelson's interest.

Mayor Harpole says Nelson is an outstanding advocate for the city and her candidacy will be great for Amarillo.

While potential candidates can file for a treasurer appointment now, they cannot officially file for office until next month.

The 30-day filing period for city elections begins January 18th running through February 17th.

The last day to register to vote in the municipal elections is April 6th.

Election day itself is May 6th.
