Checking Child Car Seats in Amarillo
By Martin Barbosa
AMARILLO -- TxDOT is making sure toddlers and babies are safe in the car after a major recall.
They hosted a car seat checkup point at an Amarillo Fire Station.
Officials made sure all seats were properly placed and secured.
This comes after Graco recalled almost two-million infant car seats, earlier this month.
TXDOT Traffic Safety Specialist Tracy Tellman says, "There is a big recall that is happened on Evenflo and Graco seats and it actually has to do with the buckle, and it has to be replaced. We check each seat for recall, we look at the date of manufacture and the model number and we compare that to a list, if it's recalled we let the parent know that."
Officials say four out of five car seats are used incorrectly.
Child seats are 71-percent effective in preventing deaths and 67-percent effective in preventing serious injuries.
