CANYON --  Canyon City Commissioners have voted down a proposed rate increase from Atmos Energy.
The vote happened today, Atmos Energy is asking to raise their base rate by almost 20 percent.
Commissioners say they are concerned about the new way Atmos determines rates.
They say they are willing to negotiate a new rate, but only after looking at the cost for other areas in the Panhandle.
Assistant City Manager, Chris Sharp said, "We'll take all that information and we'll take it back to Atmos, and really negotiate with them on fees and what's appropriate- what they can live with and what they can live without."
No word on when the proposed rate increase will come up for a vote again.
