AMARILLO -- On Wednesday afternoon, APD COPPS officers observed a vehicle with a fake tag number.
Officers tried a traffic stop on the vehicle, however 31-year-old Joshua Wayne Simmons sped off and eluded the officer. Due to the traffic condition, officers chose not to pursue the vehicle.
A short time later another COPPS unit observed Simmons running from the initial area. Officers found Simmons hiding behind a nearby apartment complex.
Police soon found the abandoned vehicle running, abandoned at a residence in the 3500 block of Fillmore. The vehicle was stolen out of Borger.
Officers also found discarded clothing near the car the driver was wearing at the time.
Simmons was also found to have two outstanding bond surrender warrants, one for Theft of Material and for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Simmons was booked into the Randall County Jail on two bond surrender warrants (one for Theft of Material and for Possession of a Controlled Substance), Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and 2 local municipal court warrants.
