Big Rewards for Big Texan

-
AMARILLO -- Molly Schuyler made international headlines Sunday when she downed three 72-ounce steak dinners in less than half an hour.

While she made thousands of dollars for the stunt, The Big Texan restaurant is more than getting their money back.

If you missed it, Schuyler ate 13.4 lbs of steak along with three salads, three baked potatoes, three shrimp cocktails and three rolls in 20 minutes flat.

A feat, not only never accomplished before, but never even attempted.

The Food Network was there along with Dish Nation but, seconds after Molly finished her feat, the news went viral.  The story was picked-up by most national news organizations giving the Big Texan publicity you can't buy.

"Because of the publicity we do get, Amarillo's supported us for many many years, and anytime we can get people to stop here and get them to stay here, that's $120 that stays in Amarillo.  So it's a responsibility we take and we embrace very closely, "  Said Big Texan owner Bobby Lee.

Lee says they spent only about $20,000 on the promotion but expect the dividends to pay off for years to come.

The story was picked-up by the likes of Time magazine, The Huffington Post, Washington Post and New York Times. Just to name a few.

Comparing the cost of the event with the cost of advertising in those publications shows you how the Big Texan will benefit.

The cost of a third of a page, black and white ad in Time Magazine costs a little more than $99,000.  So you can see the Big Texan is getting a great return on their $20,000 investment.

Molly made $6,000 for the stunt.

The Big Texan hopes to bring her back again next year to see if she can eat four in an hour.
