AMARILLO -- Many area children showed off their singing skills tonight.

It was all part of the auditions for the Amarillo Youth Choir.

There is a Boy Preparatory Choir and a Girl Preparatory Choir.

Each child will be asked to:
  • Sing the 1st verse of a familiar tune such as Silent Night or "Happy Birthday"
  • Demonstrate his or her vocal range
  • Repeat several sung and played melodic patterns
  • Repeat rhythmic patterns as directed
  • Each child will be auditioned individually
The group hosting auditions say it's a way for boys and girls to challenge their voices.

It's also a way to build self esteem, create friendships, and create musical awareness and self discipline.

Auditions continue tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.

It's at the Saint Stephen United Methodist Church.

A $5.00 non-refundable application fee is required of all applicants.
