AMARILLO --One of the best kept secrets in the panhandle this summer is now out in the open.
American Idol announced weeks ago they were bringing their bus tour to Amarillo but, they wouldn't say where. Until now.
The Don Harrington Discovery Center will host the American Idol bus tour July 17.
It will be an all-day event giving budding young singing stars a chance to make it to the big time.
The producers of the show wanted to keep the location a secret until two days before the event.
But, they released the location Wednesday night.
Amy Juba with the Discovery Center says they expect anywhere between 2,500 and 3,000 people to attend.
"We were so excited to get the call from American Idol around May to say we were being considered as a possible site for the regional auditions. We did find out about a week ago and the good news is out and we are so excited the Don Harrington Discovery Center will be the site of the auditions." Juba said.
Juba says contestants trying out for American idol will get free admission.
Anyone else who wants to go can get in for only $2.
The Discovery Center will hold the auditions in their parking lot.
Singers can start lining-up at 7 a.m.
Auditions start at 9 a.m.
No one will be allowed to camp-out overnight to get a jump on the line.
Keep in mind, singers will be auditioning for producers of the show. The actual American Idol judges you see on TV will not be there.
