By Kelly James | email@example.com
AMARILLO -- An audit of the Thomas E Creek VA Medical Center here in Amarillo found some problems.
But, nothing like the wait times that have rocked Veteran's Affairs over the last month.
According to a spokesperson, the kind you would normally find in a town this size. To be more specific, resources.
Veteran's Affairs audited all 216 VA facilities last month.
The inspection of Thomas E Creek Medical Center was held May 13.
The audit was ordered by the White House after it was discovered that the Phoenix facility had manipulated wait times for veterans.
While inspectors didn't find any problems with waiting lists here in Amarillo. They did discover a couple of problems.
The hospital's Chief Community and Patient Relations spokesperson says audit found the hospital is lagging behind when it comes to resources.
A problem Barbara Moore says you expect in a town this size.
"When we lose on provider, they go to another VA or they go into a different line, to replace them, takes awhile. Takes a little while to do that. So, while you're hiring, your capacity is down."
Moore says that's a logical conclusion in instances like this.
Amarillo's VA Center sees about 200,000 patients each year.
That includes the four outpatient clinics in Lubbock, Clovis, Childress and Dalhart.
The audit of all 216 VA facilities nationwide found wait-list fraud in almost two-thirds of them.
