Rhonda Schmidt and the Amarillo Striders spend a lot of time running on local roadways, but a recent scare with a reckless driver has the group speaking out.
A new partnewship with Share the Road allowed the group to make some safety additions to their runs.
"That's when we teamed up. We purchased some signs to put out at all the races and if we are out on the roads, so it really gets drivers attention. The good thing is, is Share the Road organziation came up with this and actually supported us in purchasing the signs."
And thanks to that financial help from Share the Road.
The Striders and their signs will be out at the Share the Road 5K on Saturday.
Share the Road President Kenneth Graham says its all about awareness."
"We're advocates for safer roads for everyone - motorists, bicycle riders, runners, and encrouage people to make themselves aware of the rules of the road," Graham said.
It's a lesson these two groups hope to spread over the weekend, one stride at a time. To register for the race, click here.
