Police: Arrest Made in Wednesday Morning Shooting

UPDATE 4:05 p.m.:

Officials said Darryl Wayne Thompson, 52, was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. 

Police told us the incident started as a verbal altercation at a residence on the 1500 block of N. Jefferson and lead to the 30-year-old female victim being shot.

Wednesday at 7:52 a.m., Amarillo Police responded to the 1400 block of N. Jefferson on an aggravated assault.  

Responding officers made contact with a 30-year-old female who had sustained what appeared to be one gunshot wound to the upper body.  She told officers that the shooting happened at a home in the 1500 block of N. Jefferson.  

After she was shot, she walked to a home in the 1400 block of N. Jefferson for assistance.   Officers have not determined if she knew the people at that home.  

During the investigation, officers went to that home and made contact with a 52-year-old male resident.  They determined that he was a suspect in the shooting and have detained him for investigation.  He has not yet been booked into jail and therefore his name cannot be released. 

The woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance.  At this point, her injury is not believed to be life-threatening. 

Investigators are working to determine the facts and circumstances leading up to the aggravated assault.  They have established that the man and woman knew each other before the incident.
