AMARILLO – Early Friday morning, Amarillo Police stopped a vehicle near 10th and S. Taylor for a traffic violation. The vehicle’s buyer tag was expired.
While speaking to the driver, the officer smelled burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A warrant check on the driver, 27-year-old Christopher Allen Smith, showed that he had an outstanding city warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested him and found that he was in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Police searched the passenger, 22-year-old Stephanie Denise Aycock and found a set of scales and a loaded .22 caliber revolver in her purse. Police arrested her on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
Officers searched the vehicle and found about 22 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine concealed in the vehicle’s console.
Smith was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance less than 400 grams, possession of marijuana under two ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the outstanding warrant.
Aycock was booked on the weapons and paraphernalia charge.
