AMARILLO -- On August 5th at 6:15 p.m., Amarillo Police working Directed Patrol observed William Dale Pachta, 36, prowling around some business near I-40 and Bell. One officer in full uniform exited the unmarked police vehicle and began to approach Pachta while the other officer remained in the drivers seat also asking the subject to stop so they could talk with him.

Police say Pachta turned and looked at both officers and began to walk away at a faster pace. The officers identified themselves as police offices and Pachta then took off running. A short foot pursuit took place between several buildings between the Goodwill store, All Storage facility and the Relax Inn.

Police report that Pachta threw several items on the ground during the pursuit.

Pachta was eventually captured and taken into custody.

Subsequent investigation lead officers to check the parking lot of Goodwill Industries where officers learned that at least one vehicle had recently been broken into and that officers had recovered several stolen items during the foot pursuit.

Police also found a .38 caliber handgun that Pachta attempted to get rid of during the chase.

Pachta was arrested and booked into the Potter County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Evading Arrest/Detention, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
