AMARILLO -- Monday evening, Amarillo Police repsponded a possible robbery at Route 66 Jewelry Exchange.
Officers found that there was not a robbery but a dispute that escalted into an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
They learned that a male and female customer had been inside the business and disputing a $10.00 business transaction. The two customers later told officers that they were there because the store owner had contacted them by phone and told them to come in and clear up a previous transaction.
While they were there, the dispute became a heated argument and the man and woman were asked to leave the premises.
While the involved people were near the front door, 35-year-old Tiodoro Botello was locked out.
Botello was then able to enter the business and approached the store employees, swinging a baseball bat in a threatening manner and verbally threatening store employees.
A store employee pepper sprayed Botello to end the threat.
Botello was taken to the Potter County Detention Center and booked on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
