AMARILLO -- The Amarillo Police Department receives a couple hundred calls for firework violations every year. Last year, the Police Department responded to more than 450 calls just on firework violations.

This year the Police Department is adding several officers to the patrol division to handle the increased call volume this holiday season.

These additional officers will handle all types of calls for service, not just firework violations.

The Amarillo Police Department reminds everyone of the city ordinance that prohibits the possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of any firework within the city limits.  This ordinance has been in effect for more than 30 years. Fines for violations are up to $2,000 for each occurrence.

Any violation under this City Ordinance is strictly enforced.
