Amarillo ISD Employees are Getting a Pay Increase

Health Insurance and Workman's Comp Benefits are Also Increasing

AMARILLO - UPDATE:

Everyone who is employed by Amarillo ISD will see a pay increase starting in July.

That increase is part of the 2017-2018 budget. It was approved in a unanimous vote by the school board, tonight. Not only are employees getting a raise, 36 new people will be hired by the school district because of this budget.

Property valuations increased earlier in the year so the tax rate is staying the same, but the district is getting more money.

According to Pati Buchenau, the District's Chief Financial Officer, the pay increase makes up for the past few years of inflation. She tells us it would go into effect as early as July 1.

"The general operating fund budget is roughly $260,000,000 with respect to the total budget roughly a 4.1% increase over last year's budget," said Scott Flow, the Vice President of the AISD Board of Trustees, "the general operating fund budget was approximately 3.9% increase over last year's operating budget."

We're told the 1.189 tax rate, the same as last years, will officially be adopted this August.

Officials increased their employee's pay as well as other added benefits. Employees got a similar raise last year, it was 2.5-percent to 3-percent.

The pay increase isn't the only positive change for AISD employees, we're told health insurance and workman's comp benefits are also increasing as well.

Amarillo ISD employees could be getting a pay increase, this all according to Pati Buchenau, the District's Chief Financial Officer.

She tells us the 2.5% pay increase would go into effect as early as July 1. It's all part of the proposed 2017 to 2018 budget and tax rate discussion at tonight's AISD board meeting.

Buchenau said the proposed 1.189 tax rate will stay the same. She adds there will be no increase and it'll officially be adopted this August, but the pay increase isn't the only positive change for AISD employees, health insurance, and workman's comp benefits are also increasing.

Those are just some of the issues up for discussion at tonight's Amarillo ISD board meeting. Also on the agenda, Bowie Middle School's appearance could be changing. A presentation by a local architect will be presenting proposed changes to the school's facade.

Finally, new legislation regarding bullying is also expected to be discussed by the board.

We'll have a full look at the board's decision on those issues, as well as interviews with district officials. That's all coming up on KAMR Local 4 News at 10:00.
