Amarillo Hosts National Cowboy Gathering

AMARILLO -- Western Horseman has tapped Amarillo, Texas as the location for its second annual Cowboy Gathering this weekend.
"Amarillo is rich in western lore and history," said Western Horseman publisher Christine Hamilton. "Western Horseman is delighted to bring the strength of its brand and subscriber base to the Panhandle area and urges the people of Amarillo to join us in celebrating this great event."
Event-goers will be able to meet cowboy poet and humorist, Baxter Black, whose syndicated column, provides a humorous look into the life of the American cowboy, appears in numerous publications around the world. Black, who will be the featured entertainer May 18 at the American Quarter Horse Foundation Museum, will be joined throughout the gathering by legendary cowboy Larry Mahan, as well as artist Tim Cox and leading horsemen Craig Cameron, Mozaun McKibben and Al Dunning.
The Western Horseman Cowboy Gathering was initially established in 2012 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of one of the nations oldest and longest-running magazines of any kind. Now, its become an annual celebration that brings the pages of Western Horseman to life.
The weekend includes a Friday golf tournament benefitting the AQHA Foundation and a party and dinner at River Falls Bed & Breakfast near Palo Duro Canyon. Saturday, May 17, will feature a spectacular trail ride in the canyon or tours of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum and the Panhandle Plains Museum. Saturday night will feature a performance by Baxter Black following dinner at the AQHA Hall of Fame and Museum.
"Even those who have lived in Amarillo for many years are going to be surprised at what they find available in their own backyard," said Hamilton.
