Amarillo High's Emerson Solano Named TGCA Volleyball Player of the Year

AMARILLO, TX. - Amarillo High School's Emerson Solano is just one week away from starting the next chapter of her volleyball career, when she heads down to Texas Tech to join the Red Raiders but before she could turn the page, there was one more order of business.

On Tuesday, Solano was presented with the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A/5A Volleyball Player of the Year.

Solano has also been named a Max Preps First Team All-American and this newest accolade will join something she affectionately calls the "Emerson Shrine"  where her mom mounts all of her achievements.

Despite the collection of awards, Solano doesn't think she'll be taking any of them to her dorm room in Lubbock.

"I'll probably leave it back home so I can try and get some more awards in college and then build that up," Solano said Tuesday with a smile.

As for this award, one presented a few months after she was actually named the recipient, is a validation of her career. So far.

"It makes me feel like all of my hard work has paid off because I've always played volleyball and I've missed so much stuff over the summer but just to know that all of my hard work has paid off in the end. Volleyball is my life and I couldn't imagine not playing so it's really awesome."

Solano helped lead the Lady Sandies to the Class 5A State Championship in 2016 where she was named the tournament's most outstanding player as well.
