Law enforcement and first responders are helping Amarillo High students learn a hard lesson about alcohol-related crashes during prom season.
Amarillo High School's Shattered Dreams program will simulate an alcohol-related car crash that includes fatalities.
Students will see a coroner pronounce fatalities, a field sobriety test, an arrest, the Jaws of Life and more.
This program is designed to raise awareness of the real-life risks of drunk driving and change students' beliefs and behaviors to reduce underage drinking and impaired driving.
It emphasizes the results of alcohol-related crashes: the shattered dreams of those who drive after drinking, the innocent victims, and their friends and families.
An official said a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff.
